The International Day of Yoga (IDY): The Celebration of the Harmony between Body and Mind

The 10th international day of Yoga (IDY) was celebrated on 21st June 2024.   The theme for the celebration of Yoga Day for this year is- “Yoga for Self and Society”.  The primary purpose of the celebration of the International Day of Yoga is to raise awareness about the ancient practice and to celebrate the physical and spiritual powers that yoga generates in the world. It is the ancient practice and yet plays an important role in bringing the harmony between body and mind. It also considered as the best way for heightening the immunity system.

On 21st June, 2024, the Management, the Faculties, the Staff and the students of Don Bosco High & Technical School PVT ITI, Krishnagar, Nadia, West Bengal observed and witnessed the display of the ASNAS on the occasion of  the International Day of Yoga (IDY) with great enthusiasm, vigour and spirit.

At the beginning, some warm up exercises like- Kapalbhati, Anunam Bilam, breathing exercises, and other free hand exercises were conducted by Sir Subhendu Debnath- Instructor of Electrician trade, and all the students actively participated in it.  There were 120+ First Year students who participated in it from the trades of Electrician, Fitter and Turner. The chanting of the shlokas and the Yogasutras brought live to the celebration of the IDY.

After the warm up session, the celebration of the IDY commenced with a short introduction on Yoga Day by Rev. Fr. Manoj Hansda SDB- Principal & the Workshop In-Charge of Don Bosco High & Technical School PVT ITI, Institute welcomed the chief guest of the event, Mr. Aditya Das, a renowned yoga trainer of Krishnanagar who is associated with Arogya Seva Asram, Krishnanagar and has 35 years of experience in the field of yoga.

Aditya sir initially in his speech stressed on the importance of maintaining balance between diet, work and sleep. He also highlighted the harmful effects of modern lifestyle and suggested ways to improve it. He talked about the positive effects of yoga mentioning eminent names like Rishi Patanjali, founder of Yoga ; Shri Narendra Modi Prime Minister of India and Baba Ram Dev who popularised Yoga and Indian culture worldwide. He taught the students the right way to do Sun Salutation Pose (Surya Namaskar) and performed in its 12 steps and explained to the participants simultaneously about its health benefits.

The insightful celebration of the IDY came to an end with a huge success under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Nanku Nicholas Besra SDB, Asst. Principal of Don Bosco High & Technical School PVT ITI, who took the great initiative and arranged the necessary actions for the observance of it in a grand manner.

Finally, the session was concluded with some more tips on healthy lifestyle. The Principal, teachers and students all shared their positive reviews and thanked Mr. Aditya Das for conducting such a wonderful and enlightening yoga session.
